The Durgiana Heritage Corridor is a visionary urban regeneration proposal that seeks to redefine the public realm surrounding the iconic Durgiana Mandir in Amritsar. Conceived by Principal Architect Ar. Bhanu Verma, the project aims to transform the temple precinct into a vibrant cultural destination where heritage, spirituality, commerce, tourism, and public life coexist seamlessly.
The project aims to create a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly heritage precinct that seamlessly blends spirituality, culture, commerce, and public life while enhancing the identity of one of Punjab’s most significant religious landmarks.
Inspired by the rich architectural heritage of Punjab and the historic streets of Amritsar, the master plan introduces grand ceremonial gateways, heritage-inspired façades, landscaped public plazas, pedestrian boulevards, and thoughtfully designed streetscapes. Traditional architectural elements such as arches, jharokhas, chhatris, decorative jaalis, and handcrafted detailing are reinterpreted through a contemporary design approach to create a timeless urban character.
The proposal emphasizes walkability, improved traffic organization, universal accessibility, integrated landscaping, public art, and carefully planned lighting to deliver a safe and engaging environment throughout the day and night. More than a beautification project, the vision is to transform the temple precinct into a memorable cultural destination where heritage, architecture, and public spaces come together to enrich the visitor experience and celebrate the spirit of Amritsar.
